Inertia in Motion

Good Evening Parents and Students,

This week we have learned a great deal about Momentum. Students you should be able to explain the relationship between impulse, impact and momentum. In addition, you should understand momentum is inertia in motion. Today we investigated the Law of Conservation of Momentum by looking at elastic and inelastic collisions using a Phet Simulation. During this week our classroom has been busy with two inquiry labs helping us gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between mass, velocity and momentum.

Here are a few questions you should be able to answer:

  1. Carlos is riding on his hover board the total mass of he and the hover board is 91 kg he is traveling west at a velocity of 2 m/s what is his momentum?

  2. When the force of impact on an object is exerted over a longer time, does the impulse increase or decrease?

Reminders:

Due Monday: Complete the 20 question practice quiz on Schoology.
